My first pair of socks for 2017. I bought the yarns for these socks several years ago and I like how they turned out. More information is on my Ravelry page for this project here.

Moniquehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12434395798719359718noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5406485681889941438.post-58984188641973504982017-01-28T04:41:00.000-08:002017-01-28T07:28:45.206-08:00Thinking Ahead to February SocksI haven't quite finished my January socks, but I'm already planning ahead to my February ones.
I have divided them into three types:

1. Insomnia Socks. This is a series I began a few years ago and will continue. (See here and here and here). I knit them when I wake up in the middle of the night and can't fall back asleep. They are mostly stockinette stitch--I need something that will lull me back to sleep, not get me agitated or upset because I've messed up the pattern--and a bright, self-patterning yarn.
2. Just-a-Bit Socks. These are the socks I work on when I have just a bit of time--sitting in the passenger seat when John is driving us to town to shop and do errands, while waiting for the kettle to boil for tea, sitting in a doctor or dentist waiting room, a few rounds during my lunch break at work. These socks require a pattern that is easy to memorize.
3. Challenge Socks. They don't have to be extremely challenging; knitting, after all, is supposed to be FUN! But it's good to have something with a little bit of a challenge--lace or cables maybe, which requires me to keep track on a chart. I knit these when I have an hour or two in the evenings, sitting by the fireplace with a cup of tea (which often turns cold), listening to Bach or the Gee's Bend gospel singers or an audio-book.

And I do love listening to audio-books as I knit. These are some titles I have lined up:

The Case Against Sugar by Gary Taubes
At Knit's End: Meditations for Women Who Knit Too Much by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee
A Spool of Blue Thread by Anne Tyler
All Dressed in White by Tami Hoag and Alafair Burke

I still haven't chosen the yarns or the patterns or the names for my February socks, but I will soon and you'll be among the first to know!Moniquehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12434395798719359718noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5406485681889941438.post-19891764860943352712017-01-22T16:14:00.000-08:002017-01-22T16:31:16.700-08:00I'm Back!I took a break from sock knitting and now I'm back. I had a problem accessing my blog as I'd forgotten which email I'd used to begin it but that now has been sorted out.

I'm knitting two pairs of socks and will have some photos to share in a week or so. Stay tuned!Moniquehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12434395798719359718noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5406485681889941438.post-24279155017520273272015-05-25T14:34:00.002-07:002015-05-25T14:42:54.427-07:00Summer Sky SocksNeedles: Size 1 (2.25mm) dpns
The first Hornet sock for the KAL showing the first set of 27 stitches. I need to knit another set and then the first 17 rounds once again before beginning the heel flap.
<s>The first Blue Moon sock with the leg portion finished. I'm ready to begin knitting the heel flap.</s>
I did not like how this was turning out so I frogged it. I've been collecting patterns that work well with stripped yarn and will use one of them with this yarn. Moniquehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12434395798719359718noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5406485681889941438.post-9807582846819691762014-12-31T03:57:00.002-08:002015-01-10T12:17:27.315-08:00Blue Hornet Socks (January KAL)The January pattern is up. Here is a link so that you can see what it looks like but as this is a purchased pattern you can't actually get the pattern unless you paid for it or were lucky enough to get them all free for a short period in December. I haven't picked out my yarn for these yet. (I didn't put my yarns in bags like many of the other participants.)

The pattern designer stated "Whether you are a comic book fan or just like hanging out at The Hornet
on Broadway in Denver, these socks are a quick knit will subtle texture" and I am neither. However, I did earn my Master’s in Library Science Degree from Emporia State
University in Kansas and their mascot is The Hornet. An auspicious
beginning to this KAL!

The color I'd originally chosen didn't work. The sock was also too big, but then the designer offered it in small and that looked like it would work much better. I frogged what I had and began again in a different color making the small sized version. Here's a photo of the yarn. The colorway is Kingfinger and it's from Lola Doodles on Etsy.
Another pair of socks, the last one this year, for the Addicted to Sock Knitting Holiday KAL. I didn't finish all the Holiday KAL socks I'd hoped to make. Perhaps next year!
